Pasifika
Pasifika
Target Road School has been on a Pasifika journey over the past 2 years.
As a staff we have been learning about Tapasā through Tui Tuia. We have had support learning about the Tapasā Pasifika compass, the kakala model of teaching and learning, learning new games and ways to incorporate culture authentically into the classroom and we even learnt and performed a Tongan dance for our Celebration of Culture Night.
Within school we have started performance groups, celebrated language weeks, had Māori and Pasifika whānau nights, dance celebrations, prize givings, attended Polyfest and have been working towards growing and connecting with our Pasifika ākonga and community.
This year we are working with Ulingaholo to bring Pasifika Enrichment into the classroom. Each class has the opportunity to be learn about and contribute to their classroom sasa. The Pasifika performance groups then learnt a Target Road School sasa which they taught across the school.
We have since begun a Pasifika Enrichment programme where senior ākonga can opt in to attending a Pasifika enrichment class where they learn about art and make their own tapa designs.
